Konrad Adenauer Stiftung virtual seminar “Fear of a Lost Decade – the Social, Political and Economic Impacts of COVID-19 in Latin America”

At the virtual seminar “Fear of a Lost Decade – the Social, Political and Economic Impacts of COVID-19 in Latin America” convened by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, ECLAC intervened alongside Germany’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Miguel Berger, and representatives from COPARMEX of Mexico and the government of Uruguay. The virtual event was attended by representatives from the private sector, academia and cooperation entities of Germany, LAC Ambassadors in Germany and representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean. The Executive Secretary presented the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic in the region and emphasized the opportunities for a renewed cooperation between the European Union, and particularly Germany, and the Latin American and Caribbean region. As the EU is one of the main trade and investment partners of the region, the Executive Secretary underlined the opportunities for further strengthening investments for a sustainable recovery in key sectors such as renewable energy, the circular economy, electro-mobility, digitalization.
