Key messages of the 2021 RFSDs

The 2021 Regional Forums on Sustainable Development, organized by the Regional Commissions, reaffirmed the centrality of the 2030 Agenda as the guiding framework for a recovery from COVID-19 that is green, rights-based, inclusive and sustainable. They brought to the forefront, once again, the value of multilateralism in fostering regional and international cooperation and promoting solutions to common challenges, including through solidarity and peer learning. In addition, the following five key messages came strongly across the regions:

  1. Rethinking the global financing architecture is critical;
  2. Investing in people-centered and gender-responsive health and social protection systems is necessary to address poverty and inequality;
  3. Investment and innovation in data is crucial to achieve the SDGs, recovery efforts, and crisis response;
  4. Commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through concrete actions needs to be renewed and strengthened and;
  5. Digitalization must be leveraged in support of the SDGs.
