Fifteenth Coordination Meeting on International Migration, 16-17 February 2017

While international migration is a global phenomenon, migration has strong intra-regional dimensions, with most movements limited to the same region. Factors such as shared histories, linguistic and cultural similarities, un-even development between neighbouring countries, preferential legal migration options and ease of travel often lead to migrants moving to countries near their own.  It is important, therefore, that the global compact on safe, orderly and regular migration and its preparatory process incorporate fully the regional and subregional perspectives.

These are some of the messages that Mr Amr Nour, Director, Regional Commissions New York Office highlighted in his briefing to the Fifteenth Coordination Meeting on International Migration held on 16-17 February 2017.
