ESCWA at the Arab Day of Agriculture


ESCWA emphasized the need to develop rural areas and the agricultural sector to secure food and confront the threats emanating from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Arab region, even before the pandemic, there were two concurrent food-related challenges: undernourishment and obesity, which affected 50 million and 115 million people respectively. COVID-19 worsened food insecurity and poverty, rendering 2 million more food insecure and pushing 14 million more into poverty.
