The Regional Commissions have been developing new economic models and pursuing innovative thinking to effect a paradigm shift towards a new development pattern that works for people and the planet.

These efforts towards transformational changes to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the models to support such transformations were the focus of the Executive Secretaries of the five Regional Commissions  at their annual Dialogue with the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee, Tuesday, 22 October, UNHQ, New York.

The Executive Secretaries delivered a series of presentations from the regional perspective on the theme  “Inclusive societies based on new economic models and sustainable use of natural resources”, which were followed by interactive rounds of discussions with the Member States.

The Chair of the General Assembly Second Committee (Ambassador Cheikh Niang, PR of Senegal to the UN) conveyed the opening remarks.

During the Dialogue, the Executive Secretaries illustrated how the Regional Commissions are responding to the global call for action and translating the aspiration of the 2030 Agenda into actionable development pathways in the regions.
