escap11feb

On 5 February, Executive Secretary of ESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana joined Thailand Minister for Natural Resources and Environment H.E. Varawut Silpa-archa, Ambassador of Italy to Thailand H.E. Lorenzo Galanti and UK COP26 Envoy H.E. John Murton for the COP26 co-presidency launch in Thailand. Ahead of the capstone event in the United Kingdom later this year, the representatives affirmed the extensive opportunities for concerted climate action in the Asia-Pacific region, including divesting from coal and making energy infrastructure affordable.
Ms. Alisjahbana commented on ESCAP’s position to support the co-presidency, remarking, “Strong leadership is essential to mobilize citizens towards finding solutions to combat climate change and implement the Paris Agreement. We need everyone to become champions of climate change response.”
